Ed Hart

President

From the beginning in 1969, Safeway Moving Systems has been committed to providing a superior quality of service.

Ed Hart was born in Indianapolis and has always made the city his home. He graduated from Ball State University in northeast Indiana with a degree in business administration and finance.

In the year 1979 Hart bought Safeway Logistics. When he bought Safeway it was a small company that had been started in 1969. Safeway joined United Van Lines, which is now Unigroup, in 1982. Throughout the years Safeway has been given dozens of awards by Unigroup for hauling and sells of special commodities and logistics.

Safeway has many dedicated and loyal employees. Carol McLennan, Director of Customer Service, has been with the company for 44 years. Several other employees have been with Safeway for over 30 years. The experience and wisdom of these employees have helped Safeway become a very successful company.

Hart has been married to his wife, Denise, for 39 years. They have two daughters, two son-in-law's and five grandchildren.

Integrity is very important to Hart and he applies it to every area of Safeway Logistics. In the past 46 years Safeway Logistics has grown to be a strong and thriving company.

John Starks

John Starks

Senior Vice President, Business Development

John Starks is Senior Vice President of Business Development at Safeway Logistics, a specialized transportation and logistics provider.

He attended the University of Kansas and the University of Nebraska at Omaha before starting his career with Werner Enterprises, Inc in Omaha, Nebraska in 1995. He held multiple positions at Werner, the last of which was Senior Director of Operations during which he was responsible for operations for the Van, Team, and Regional divisions consisting of over 2,000 trucks. He was involved in planning, management and policy development for all of Werner’s Operations division.

Starks left Werner in 2005 and became the Vice President of Dedicated & Customer Service in Greensboro, North Carolina where he led his team to grow revenues 54% and greatly improved the Dedicated division operating ratio. In 2007, Starks became the Vice President Operations for Hoosier Tradewinds in Arcadia, Indiana before moving on to New Breed Logistics in Greensboro, North Carolina in 2008. During his years at New Breed as Program Manager, he had full responsibility for all facets of program management for the entire transportation business development group. He also managed new client relationships and TMS implementations in both the US and Canada.

Starks joined UniGroup Logistics in December of 2012. His proven capabilities in generating growth opportunities in logistics made him the perfect choice for the newly created position of Senior Director, Logistics. In September of 2014, Starks became Vice President of Business Development for one of UniGroup’s premier logistics Agents, Safeway Moving Systems. Starks has been instrumental in developing and launching Safeway’s new logistics brand.

Blake Andrews

Blake Andrews

Vice President of Operations

Blake Andrews is Vice President of Operations for Safeway United & Safeway Logistics in Indianapolis IN.

Blake Andrews graduated in 2001 from Taylor University a Christian University located in Upland Indiana one hour north of Indianapolis. He received a bachelor of arts degree majoring in business with a finance concentration.

Andrews started at Safeway in 2001 in Safeway's truck maintenance shop. He has been instrumental in Safeway's hauling awards. Safeway has received this award every year since 1987 from Unigroup for hauling special commodities and logistics.

Every day Andrews adds his many skills to the efforts of the other Safeway employees that are dedicated to making a positive experience for customers. In the final analysis he believes Safeway's drivers are the most important asset to the company. Andrew spends a great deal of his time communicating with the drivers and is devoted to addressing their specific needs. Safeway's footprint and business continues to grow largely because of the quality drivers that makes Safeway a success.

Andrews has been married for 12 years to his wife, Christina. They have two children.

Andrews says that it is an honor to work for a company that continues to grow and at the same time is committed to a path of honesty and integrity.

Kathy Cooper

Kathy Cooper

Chief Financial Officer

Kathy Cooper is the Chief Financial Officer at Safeway Logistics, a specialized transportation and logistics provider head quartered in Indianapolis, IN.

Kathy graduated from Indiana University - Bloomington in 1988 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting.

After graduation, she moved to Indianapolis to work for a KPMG Peat Marwick. She then spent six years as the Controller of a family owned construction company specializing in Underground tunneling. In 1996, she joined EventPro, an event marketing firm specializing in Mobile Display Tours as the Chief Financial Officer, where she worked for 21 years.

Kathy joined Safeway Moving Systems in April 2017. She is pleased to be part of a business known for quality service and strong integrity. Kathy is an active member at Traders Point Christian Church and has two wonderful children.

Carol MacLennan

Carol MacLennan

Director of Customer Service

Carol MacLennan is Director of Customer Service at Safeway United and Safeway Logistics in Indianapolis IN.

Carol started with Safeway in 1971 in the transportation of their copier and computer division. She contributes her growth at Safeway to Ed Hart who purchased the company in 1979. She was given the opportunity to expand her role, and gained her strength in developing partnerships between Safeway and their Customers, under his leadership.

In the 1980's, Carol received many certificates and awards from Xerox Corporation, a valued partner of Safeway, for outstanding customer service. She received Employee of the Year in 1987.

She believes in giving back to her community. A volunteer with the Eastside Community Development Center, for inter-city youth.

Carol was promoted to Director of Customer Service in 2001. She believes that the empowerment given to Safeway's Customer Service team is one key factor to their continued growth and success.
