History of Safeway

Safeway has been involved in transporting and logistics for 45 years. Through the years we have received numerous awards which include, hauling volume, safety, sales, and logistics.

We owe our success to our experienced dedicated team members.

Safeway has ALWAYS been a logistics company first moving electronics equipment from the beginning. The President of Safeway, Ed Hart, graduated from college in 1976. In three short years 1979, Ed became partners in Safeway Moving Systems. Three years later in 1982 Ed Hart bought his partner out and Safeway became fully focused on moving large big box copiers, electronics, and mainframe computers warehoused and delivered throughout the state.

In 1982 Safeway joined United special products side. Safeway became a major hauler for the special commodities side and the fleet grew.

In 2004 the logistics side opened up for Safeway as Unigroup (United Van Lines, Mayflower Transit, Sterling International) and opened up the entire warehousing division worldwide.

Safeway has a long history with specialized planning, problem solving, customizing, delivery services, truckload, LTL, warehousing and reverse logistics

The Safeway business plan is a perfect fit for the Unigroup business model.
