We love challenging projects because they let us really shine. We have nearly 50 years of experience designing custom solutions for our clients. Here we share with you a little bit about a project delivering multiple sizes of refrigerator units — tens of thousands of tons of equipment in all — to more than 600 locations across the country.
More than just a move.
The first priority was mobilizing a large network of well-trained delivery providers. Safeway Logistics coordinated all the inbound transportation, designed a consistent process with controls to manage overages, shortages, and damages (OS&D). All service providers would complete deliveries and direct-bill their services to the client. Safeway provided service provider information to our client to be uploaded into their ERP systems. This enabled the client to quickly add more than 600 new vendors into their system to prepare to process payment.
Drawing on past experience with large-scale, multi-destination deliveries, we developed a custom, single-point-of-contact solution that enabled and managed communication between our client, the project managers, and our professional drivers.
“The client provided a spreadsheet that detailed all of the destination points,” said Jamie Ferguson, Safeway’s VP of Sales. “We worked closely with our agents to secure not-to-exceed rates that allowed for accurate budgeting for our client and ensured compliance with the scope of work.”
Getting the job done.
Safeway Logistics worked closely with the client to manage every detail and coordinate all deliveries. The job was completed successfully and without a single service failure or damage claim.
All units were delivered as-scheduled to the more than 600 locations throughout the United States. Equipment was received, inspected, and OS&D procedures were completed as outlined in the scope of work.
“On every delivery, our team set the equipment up, installed racking, and connected to power,” said Jamie. “Our agents performed debris-removal and provided a photo of the equipment in place which showed the operating temperature. We also provided documentation, including a signed POD, that confirmed the product was successfully delivered damage-free, on-time, and was ready to use.”
